We love making stuff here at George and Willy, it is our passion and it continues well after the working day is done. Many afterwork hours are spent right here in the workshop, creating and bringing to life personal projects we all get excited about.
Jarred's idea for a wooden longboard began by stumbling across an opportunity to source a bunch of old Paulownia wood from a local sawmill.
Often referred to as the Aluminium of Timber, Paulownia wood is the lightest known timber other than Balsa. It has the highest strength to weight ratios of any wood in the world.
Running the planks through a thicknesser machine gave new life to the 10 year old wood.
With materials sorted, ideas and plans for shaping the wooden board began.
The inside was hollowed out, creating air chambers within the board. This eliminated any excess wood, reducing weight without sacrificing strength.
Adding the final touches
A layer of glass and a custom made fin from a local shaper completed the project - Chambered Paulownia longboard - 9'4" x 23 3/8" x 2 7/8"
