Last minute the decision was made that some sort of Christmas celebration was required before we all went our separate ways over the break.

John kindly offered to take everyone over to Matakana for a BBQ and afternoon in the sun. He had a bit of a sour look on his face all day as he crashed into a bollard at the petrol station on the way to the boat ramp. However, everyone else had a great day.

The day started off well as we managed to find the only part of the beach with any shelter from the wind and Alice who had missed the Christmas party the year before, due to getting lost, had come along. Everyone was enjoying the sausages and beers.

Then the tide started coming in at a rate of knots which lead to the beach disappearing beneath our feet which was a laugh.

Will explaining to John how he beached a boat onto a sandbar once and had to wait until the next high tide to get it off.

I am not sure if there was a moral to this story. Maybe be more organised. Or maybe that you can't control the weather or tide, but it was a happy day and we all went off to celebrate Christmas having had a few beers and sausages together.
